Founding Story
The founder of Young Living Essential Oils is Gary Young. He discovered the therapeutic value of essential oils through a personal experience that led him on a worldwide odyssey to learn about oils. Gary also owns Young Living Lavender Farms in Mona, Utah; St. Maries, Idaho; and Simiane-La-Rotonde, France. These farms take part in creating oil and lavender enhanced products. Gary has recently been working to establish a farm in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where the ground is fertile and there is year-round growth.

In 1989, Gary founded an essential oil company on a one-quarter farm in Spokane, Washington. He and his wife later purchased land in St. Maries, ( Idaho to expand acreage. The first distiller at St. Maries had a boiler capacity of just over 3,000 liters. Within four years and the addition of six more boilers, the capacity totaled over 34,000 liters. Land was then purchased in Mona, Utah, and Simiane-La-Rotonde, France, which totaled over 2,000 acres devoted solely to the production of lavender and other aromatic herbs. Combined with St. Maries, the Young Living Lavender Farms owns a total of over twelve distillers with boiler capacity over 115,400 liters.
