Founding Story
Thirty years ago, Frank McDonnell, who has a degree from the Gemological Institute of America, opened his own small jewelry store in a valley in Northern Connecticut. He specialized in gold, platinum, cultured pearls, and diamonds. After 10 years in business, his store became more of an office, where he sold to clients in more personal settings, one-on-one. Soon after, he began making house calls. In the year 2000, Frank’s son, Tim, and daughter in-law, Laura, took over the family business. Their main focus was to take the jewelry into the homes of clients. The new line of jewelry was a hit and the company had orders coming in from personal parties from across the northeast. Within the next five years, the company introduced 100’s of new pieces of jewelry that were made out of sterling silver, gold, steel, colorful resins, and freshwater pearls. The new owners created an enhanced hostess benefits plan that offered people plenty of free jewelry. In 2005, the company changed its name to M Studio.
